Parent Teacher Conferences

Today was such a wonderful time to sit down and chat with the parents of my sweet little class.  What a joy and blessing for us to be able to communicate with each other at the start of a new year.  Let's keep working hard, as a team to raise those sweet children up to be godly young women and men!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TREATS

Every birthday is a very exciting and special day!  I just wanted to take time to remind you about celebrating your sweet little ones birthday.  We would love to celebrate on their special day!  However, sometimes they fall on the weekend or even in the summer time.  There's no need to fear, we have a plan.  If their birthday falls on a weekend we will be so happy to celebrate it either the week before or after.  If by chance you have a sweet summer baby we will celebrate their half birthday!  It is a lot of fun to celebrate half birthday too!

As for their special treat please make sure to send it in with your child at the beginning of the day.  Let's do our best to have individual small servings of their goodies.  For example: little cupcakes, cookies, cut brownies or brownie bites.  Please know that we want them to have a special time but there is only a short period of time for us to have their yummy snack, and we don't want it to be wasted!  Also, please for times sake make sure not to send something that needs to be cut or the children will not be able to enjoy the goodies.

You are welcome to send enough for your child's class or the entire grade.  Let's just keep it simple but still be able to celebrate the life which the Lord has given to each of your little ones!

Character Trait of The Week--Obedience

Today we were able to have a great class discussion on our new character trait, and learn how we can better apply it to our lives!

We discussed how obedience is not only doing what you are told the first time, but doing it with a cheerful heart.   Also, that we are to first be obedient to the Lord and all the authority that He has put over us.  Your sweet children reminded me that their earthly authorities are their daddies, mommies, teachers, Sunday school teachers, pastors, grandparents and many more.

We were also able to discuss that ultimately being disobedient is sinning against the Lord.  It was so much fun to see your children talk about how they should be setting an example of how to be obedient instead of having to be an example of what might happen if you are not obedient.  It brought up an old rule that you all heard when you were young as well: "Do unto others as your would have them do unto you."

After our sweet class conversation, your students came up with two easy goals for them to remember.

1. Be obedient to the authority that the Lord has put in your life.
2.  Practice your obedience at home to form good habits, so that when you go to school or anywhere else you will know how to behave.

Pretty impressive what this fun kiddos come up with.

Homework assignment for parents:

Sit down with your child at dinner and discuss ways that they can start to put this into practice at home.  I want to hear that you child has their best foot forward at home and at school!  Remember to always as them questions that they will NEED to give you more then a one word answer, and expect it.  This will help to build their conversation skills as well.  Leave your comments on your dinner discussion to share with other parents too! ;)

Service for our Service Men & Women

Service projects are a wonderful and very special part of each student's life here at The Heiskell School.  I really like to see the students have a few different opportunities to show service to others.  One way that we are going to have the opportunity to share is through letters this year.  We are going to be adopting a Platoon and sending them letters.  We hope to hear back from them as well.  This will be a sweet way for the children to share their love for the Lord with others who are putting their lives on the line for our great country, while practicing our writing skills as well!

Below are some pictures of helmet liners that Miss Cyndie has made for the same platoon!  Way to go!  We are looking forward to keeping you all updated on our platoon.

It's a Great Day to be at The Heiskell School

Last week was such a fun time to get to know my sweet class and for all of us to get into our routine!  We had a wonderful time talking about God's promises for us! Every week we will have a new promise to learn from and see how we will be able to apply it to our lives to help us grow.

Be sure to sit down and have dinner as a family.  Challenge your student to talk with you about what they are learning in school.  Encourage them to use complete sentences as well.  Let's all work on our conversation skills and our manners while enjoying a meal together!

Here is a topic to get you going:

In Bible today we discussed God's promise for this week from Genesis 1:31, God promises that everything He makes is good!  Isn't that true.  We talked about how sin entered the world, and how there is nothing that we as humans can do to improve or make what the Lord has made better.  See what your child has to add.

Tomorrow, I look forward to the students all bringing in something that God made!

Welcome to 2nd Grade!

Welcome to second grade.  This is our new blog!  You will be able to check in and see what fun things we are learning and doing during the week.  Look out for fun stories and great pictures!

Thank you for sharing your sweet children!  I am looking forward to a wonderful year of growing and learning more about the Lord through every subject we study!
