Music for the King
Last week in chapel we had some very special visitors to come share with us. Mr. David Carnes and Dr. Kristine Harris of Mount Vernon Baptist Church came to do a very special music chapel for us at Christmastime. You missed a wonderful chapel. It was such a blessing to have two very talented people come and lead us in worship. Especially when they are playing for the glory of the Lord!

Baby It's Cold Outside--Clothing Drive
Please second & seventh grade help collect gently used clothing, shoes, winter jackets, for the residents of the Edgewood community.
The Wayt family has been working with Edgewood Kid's Club which meets on Saturdays to teach and reach the kids of the Edgewood Court Apartments with the gospel. The approximately 200 residents live in subsidized housing and most kids are from single parent, low income circumstances.
We will be collecting clothing and winter items now through January. Please look for the collection bin that Coach Burnette is keeping for us in the gym.

Christmas at Mount Vernon
I love the Christmas season. I love being with my family and friends. I truly treasure that warm fuzzy feeling deep down in my heart. It is there because of the true meaning of Christmas. It is much more then presents, but one special gift that was born for each of us. As you probably know by know I also love music. So here are paired two of my favorite things, and I would love to invite you, your family and your friends to attend. This is my music family and we will be presenting through song and scripture the love that Jesus has put into our hearts!

Westward Bound-Oklahoma for Thanksgiving
The Kirk's traveled to Oklahoma for Thanksgiving to spend some time with their family. They have loving shared some of their pictures from their trip with the class to share. Wish I could have gone too! Looks like they had fun!

Lawson Thanksgiving Food Drive
The Thanksgiving food drive is going on right now. I just walked passed our little drop off for Mrs. Searle's second grade and it is very bare. The class did a math problem to see what we could come up with just a few cans to fill our space. We found 3 different ways to solve the problem. Can you find anymore?
The Heiskell School is hosting the Lawson Thanksgiving Food Drive. There are thirteen students in Mrs. Searle's second grade class. If each student and Mrs Searle brought two cans, how many cans would Mrs. Searle's class have donated?

New Little Sister
Early in the morning on Saturday, October 23, 2010 at 1:13am Ellen became a big sister again. Ellen and her family welcomed Sally into the world. What a blessing! We are so excited for you all. May the Lord continue to bless you as you raise another sweet girl.

Christ is the Key
Sweet families,
Yesterday at church in the morning and evening service we learned about families and obedience from children. I was so touched that I wanted to share it with you. I was reminded again of the important tole we play in each child's life. As soon as the sermon is out on podcast, I will post it on the blog. Below is the pray from the evening service given by one of the church members.
“Lord, we pray for the children here today– whether they are in elementary school, high school or college. Maybe today You have reminded them of a time when they haven’t obeyed their parents, and therefore, have dishonored Christ.
We pray that they will honor Christ, by asking for forgiveness and that You will give them the strength to obey their parents.
Parents, maybe something struck you this evening, where you have not been honoring to Christ in disciplining your children. We pray that you ask for forgiveness and for God's grace and help to parent in a way that would honor the Lord.
God, many times our families can be a mess, we confess that when we try to govern our families in our own strength, it doesn’t work; but we humbly acknowledge that we need the Word of Christ to richly dwell in us and the wisdom to know how to teach and admonish one another, especially our children.
Give us homes, Lord, where Christ is King, where husbands and wives esteem one another, where children learn discipline, and where loving mom’s and dad’s seek to shepherd their childrens hearts, so they know and follow Christ. Give us homes, Lord, where by Your grace children they are becoming godly. May our children find it easy to obey, as part of their worship of the Christ in whom they believe.
In Jesus name we pray.

Today we were able to look at circle graphs and bar graphs together to see how they show the same information in different ways. It was so much fun to see all the little light bulbs going off in the student's minds.

Baby Pictures
Today in Bible we looked at the verses:
"God's thoughts to me outnumber the grains of sand on the earth!" Psalm 139:18
"Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart. I appointed you as a prophet to the nations." Jeremiah 1:5
We are doing a special assignment right now that needs a little extra help from you at home. Please send in a baby picture of your sweet child tomorrow. Please try to make it younger than one year. Also make sure it is one that we can glue onto a piece of paper. We don't want you to loose your treasured memories, so a copy of a picture might be best. When we are completed we will let you know what to do next.

Mrs. Heiskell's Birthday
Today was an extra special day to celebrate Mrs. Heiskell's birthday! However the treat was all for us. Mrs. Heiskell played the piano for us, and we sang some of her favorite hymns. What a blessing and a joy to hear her play. Thank you Mrs. Heiskell and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

Junior High Cross Country
Last night Mr. Searle and I had the opportunity to go to the Cross Country Meet. It was at Chastain Park. The course was very difficult, up and down hills...steep hills. We were very impressed and excited to see how well the Heiskell team ran. They finished in 4th place overall. Way to go Heiskell Eagles!

Bruster's Go To Washington D.C.
We went to Washington D.C. for my sister's soccer tournament. It is called the WAGS Tournament, and her team won the tournament.
We was also visited the Washington Monument, the Smithsonian and the White House. We ran out of time to go to the Lincoln Memorial...so Dad can we go back?
